Jon is a Graphic Designer and Illustrator who has lived in Vancouver his entire life. He has been renting out his apartment on thisopensapce since April and already hosted five different guests.
His space is bright, light, and open. The modern furniture, custom kitchen, and natural sunlight make this one of our favorite places to step away from day-to-day work. It’s perfectly suited for photo and video shoots, performances, private events, and any other type of artistic endeavor.
We spoke with Jon about listing his apartment on thisopenspace, his love for Vancouver, and more. Here's what he had to say:
Tell us about yourself:
I am a Graphic Designer and Illustrator living in Vancouver. One of the few people to have lived here all my life, I love living here and feel like I keep finding more to enjoy. I also do tarot and palm readings for people occasionally and am really into Astrology. Like INTO it. I occasionally do readings at the Good Spirit in Gastown, and the intermittent freelance project.
When a guest is using your apartment, what can you be found doing?
Riding my bike around town, fantasizing about owning a large garden over Pinterest, drawing in my sketchbook, or listening to podcasts discussing the Real Housewives franchise.
What are your favorite spaces in the city?
I really enjoy Six Acres in Gastown, I think it's the right mixture of rough brick and plants and wood. Additionally, places like Finches or MacLeod's books, if it looks like I can pretend I'm in the past, I'm into it.
Why do you rent out your space on thisopenspace?
I think the service is brilliant. You can leverage your home or workspace to make some extra money, but also you're providing people with access to a place to take photos or meet that is amenable to their budget. I live in an old building that is modest on the outside, but with beautiful spaces on the inside. Services like thisopenspace allow us to find little secret gems that we wouldn't see otherwise.
What do you do with the money you earn on thisopenspace?
I sock it away for a rainy day :)
Within the first few months of hosting on thisopenspace, many other hosts have earned as much as $10,000 by renting out their space. It’s a great way to connect with people while earning some extra cash on the side. Plus, it's absolutely free to list your space and the price you charge for your listing is completely up to you.
