[THROUGH THEIR LENS] DOWN AND OUT IN DUBLIN WITH ROSS MCDONNELL

[THROUGH THEIR LENS] is a monthly feature by contributing photographer Becky Philpott showcasing photographers from Vancouver and around the world.

Ross McDonnell is a celebrated Dublin based image maker whose work is a far cry from the twee Irish Countryside photos we normally associate with the Emerald Isle. His project ‘Joyride’ is a glimpse into life lived in the cracks of Irish society. The project’s setting, the infamous Ballymun flats were built to clear out the last of the inner-city tenements of Dublin. The flats have long been demolished but McDonnell’s images will be a constant reminder of a failed and tragic social housing scheme.
