[THROUGH THEIR LENS] Seven Images From Japanese Photographer Rinko Kawauchi

[THROUGH THEIR LENS] is a monthly feature by photographer Becky Philpott showcasing photographers from Vancouver and around the world.

Rinko Kawauchi has been capturing square, hazy fragments of every day life long before Instagram made it hip to do so. The Japanese photographer burst onto the scene back in 2001 when she simultaneously published 3 photography albums. Her beautifully minimalistic images have received critical acclaim in countless publications and have been exhibited in too many prestigious galleries and festivals to mention. There have been many imitators of Kawauchi’s work but none have succeeded in capturing a perfectly poetic moment like she can.
