[FIRST LOOK] is where we introduce a new pop-up for the very first time. It's now in our Upcoming calendar and should be in yours too.
We love a good pop-up and that means that much of our days are spent reading about the latest in pop-up happenings. From a shipping container pop-up shopping mall in London's Shoreditch neighbourhood to an igloo in New York's Bryant Park, theres lots of good stuff out there (and plenty of garbage as it seems like anyone throwing a garage sale in a club is calling themselves a pop-up now).
Occasionally, we come across some gems that knock our socks off and leave us with pop-up envy. And fortunately we've got a vibrant and creative maker community here in Vancouver, which means that some of the best in pop-up happens in our small city. That trend is continuing and we're proud to support it as the media sponsor for Other Vancouver.
What the heck is Other Vancouver? Founders Negin Izad (designer), Sofia Fiorentino (graphic artists and designer), and Lynn Doan (marketing manager) call it a "slow-design initiative". The trio is bringing a 3-day market style pop-up to Vancouver's Chinatown from November 28-30.
The focus is on unique pieces by exceptional and independent designers and artists, carefully curated from Vancouver and around North America including Montreal, New York, and Chicago. Expect a considered mix of apparel, accessories, jewelry, apothecary, and art.
It's their first foray into curating a retail shop, and while we're not expecting them to build a pop-up igloo in Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Gardens, we're anticipating one of this season's best curated shops on the unassuming second floor of 163 E. Pender (an artist space / gallery above the old Giant Ant offices). “We want to highlight the designer’s process and story just as much as the product." say founders Negin and Sofia. As media sponsor's, we're helping with this piece by releasing three interviews with featured designers leading up to opening night.
They're kicking it off with an opening party on Friday, November 28 from 8-11PM. The short affair is happening from Nov. 28-30 only. Hours are Friday: 10-6PM, Saturday: 10-10PM, and Sunday 10-8PM all upstairs at 163 E. Pender. Save the date from our Upcoming calendar. You can bet we'll be there.
